Tank is also coated to prevent flash rusting.


Now, here's the reason you don't want to use liquid tank liners on a Goldwing.
This is the fuel pickup screen and tube.  The liquid tank liner will plug these up!
Note also the fuel line in the picture of the rusty tank above.  This tube is easily plugged
with liquid tank liner.


Usually, all the paint is removed by the process, although some early tanks
had such good paint that some of it remains.  We prime the outside of the tanks
with an industrial quality enamel and then paint them any color you want, as long
as that color is black.....

Tanks are pressure tested to 5 psi, to insure they do not leak.
Any holes are brass brazed.

This process works very well and is much easier (and safer) than swishing around a tank full of acid.
We send our tanks out to a local shop who's only job is to remove rust from metal.  They have been doing it
for years and do it very well.

As much trouble as it is to remove and install a Goldwing fuel tank, you might as well have the job done right the first time!
